What does this mean for me?
As a UK taxpayer, you and your employer have to pay NI contributions. By signing up for a National Insurance Refund and contracting out of the second state pension scheme you are choosing where your contributions are being directed. You don't have to contribute anything extra to contract out; you are simply choosing to direct your funds to your own stakeholder pension fund which will be set up as part of this NI rebate process.
Please note: An NI Rebate is an investment into a stakeholder pension. There is no cash rebate. You will only be able to receive the benefits of your investment at retirement.

How much does a National Insurance Refund cost?
The setup and transfer of the National Insurance Rebate is free. No deductions are made from the contributions. The pension is a stakeholder plan and adheres to the government standard costs, currently 1% per year.
